The Desktop team works in the management of computer systems internally and externally at VTA. The software will manage update and remote access to the system for improved management. The Desktop team is working on internal projects to manage our inventory and updating existing equipment to an updated standard.
Definition
Under general supervision, the Information Systems Analyst I provides technical and analytical support to VTA's information systems and computer servers.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the entry/working level in the Information Systems Analyst series. This class is distinguished from the Information Systems Analyst Assistant by the performance of more complex tasks and duties including installing computer hardware, software, upgrades and peripherals, monitoring and taking corrective action on operational systems, managing system controls, and troubleshooting more complex problems. This class may perform some higher-level tasks in a training capacity. Tasks performed by the Information Systems Analyst I are in a learning capacity. As knowledge and skill increases, the incumbent performs work more independently.

Essential Job Functions

Typical Tasks

Duties performed may vary depending on the area of assignment and the working level.
  • Prepares and installs computer hardware, software, upgrades, and peripherals;
  • Monitors operational systems, performs backups, manages off-site storage of media, runs production jobs, troubleshoots system-wide problems;
  • Resolves operational and maintenance issues using diagnostic and troubleshooting methods, and confers with other staff on status, issues and action;
  • Analyzes information system issues, operations and configurations to identify system improvements and to enhance operating efficiencies, and coordinates with programmers as needed;
  • As directed, completes minor budgeting activities, SAP user transactions, memoranda writing, and administrativetasks such as email or technical reports;
  • Assists with minor procurements, and related administrative tasks;
  • Leads smaller projects or portions of larger projects using VTA personnel, consultants, and vendors;
  • Coordinates the implementation of hardware and software additions and enhancements;
  • Controls changes to the various system environments including application software, database, and operating systems;
  • Maintains technical and functional competency in applications utilized by the assigned department;
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards

Sufficient training, education, and experience with computer systems to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in computer science or a related field. (Additional applicable experience with technical and analytical support to VTA's information systems and computer servers substitutes for college education on a year for year basis.)

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of:
  • Operational characteristics of information systems and computer servers;
  • Basic principles and practices of maintaining networks;
  • Basic techniques and methods of installing and troubleshooting computer hardware and software;
  • Basic support of client software (MS – Office, Adobe products, email, and /or browsers, etc.);
  • Basic support and troubleshooting of personal computers, laptops, printers, multifunctional devices, and related peripheral equipment;
  • Basic support of tablet and/or related mobile computing devices;
  • Routine computer operation tasks;
  • Principles of customer service;
  • System change processes and basic control methodology.
Ability to:
  • Install computer hardware, software, and upgrades;
  • Learn to troubleshoot network operating and maintenance issues;
  • Assist in managing one or more IT infrastructure components, such as SMS, Microsoft Office software, Internet-Intranet, and Microsoft Exchange;
  • Assist in managing the IT Help Desk;
  • Accurately enter and assign trouble tickets in a help desk system;
  • Perform computer operations tasks under limited supervision;
  • Manage and control software, documentation, and configuration changes to the various systems.
