South Burlington School DistrictPosition DescriptionJob Title: Literacy CoordinatorLocation: DistrictJob Group: EducatorPay Level: ExemptReports to: Executive Director of LearningSummary: In conjunction with the Executive Director of Learning, works with administrators, Coaches, andteachers to develop and implement universally designed, research-based, proficiency-based Literacy curriculum,instruction, and assessment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)1. Supports best first instruction by providing resources and support for research-based instructional strategiesaligned with District initiatives by: a. Reviewing teacher perception & student performance data to identify professional learning needs.b. Working with administrators to ensure teachers implement district-stated curricula.c.
Providing teachers with instructional strategies that emphasize high leverage concepts.d. Providing teachers support for varied and inclusive strategies to engage all learners in literacy practices.e. Observing teacher use of new instructional strategies and providing feedback that is timely, actionable, andthoughtful.2. Leads development and implementation of District-stated shared practices & priorities of PK-12 literacycurriculum by: a.
Obtaining and sharing resources with teachers for improved student engagement, inquiry-driven units ofstudy, explicit teaching of transferable and metacognitive skills, and inclusive learning environments.b. Consulting with administrators and teacher teams to improve progress monitoring and commonassessment strategies.c. Helping teacher teams understand and adhere to the District scope & sequence of literacy proficiencies.d. Collaborating with teachers and administrators to foster consistency across commonly taught courses,calibrate common assessments, and address articulation issues.3.
Supports professional development opportunities aligned with District initiatives to advance system-widechange by developing common language and shared understanding by: a. Assisting the Executive Director of Learning and administrators plan and provide in-service, professionaldevelopment and TLC workshops as needed.b. Using data to identify & address professional learning needs and collaboration opportunities.c. Providing facilitation and support for school collaborative structures (e.g., Continuous Improvement Team,Data Wall, Teaching Learning Communities, as determined by the Executive Director of Learning.)d.
Attending conferences and workshops with teachers and administrators in order to stay current anddevelop shared understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.4. Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning in the areas of antiracism and inclusion with a visiblecommitment to equity reflected in all aspects of work.5.
