What does it mean to be a Manufacturing Engineer at Fisher Barton Thermal Spray Technologies?
The Manufacturing Engineer provides a high level of expertise to support and improve the manufacture of both existing and new products and associated processes. This role will provide technical expertise to specify the necessary facility, equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes which improve our cost effectiveness and market competitiveness. Regularly recommends and leads implementation of improvements to production processes, methods, and controls. Responsible for leading or collaborating on various activities between Engineering, Sales, and Production to resolve manufacturing issues.
You will do this by:
- Utilizes CAD system to develop tooling and fixture designs as needed to support production.
- Design and implementation of part holding fixtures and production machine improvements
- Assist operations in conducting testing, preparing analyses, and identifying key measures and process improvements using plant performance data analysis
- Partner with plant operations personnel to secure process data for identification of technology gaps, improvement opportunities, and project definitions
- Coach plant personnel on measurements and daily updates of technology performance/asset utilization data
- Pinpoint efficiencies, create process projects, and execute initiatives to drive efficiencies and repeatable processes in production that are aligned to the business strategies and objectives
- Provide technical plant support in specialized areas including process simulation, modeling, risk analysis, and process optimization
- Assist in managing asset utilization and project budgets
- Provide data to validate that projects deliver performance objectives after implementation
- Accepts and supports the Thermal Spray Technologies Quality System and Safety protocols.

Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or other related field and 7+ years of experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or other related field and 3 - 5 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 - 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
Additional Knowledge & Skills:
- Advanced user of CAD/CAM software.
- Seasoned knowledge of manufacturing requirements and demonstrated ability to incorporate those requirements into product processing/design.
- Possesses solid technical ability in one or more associated technologies including but not limited to milling, grinding, turning, machine automation, robotics, heat treat, material science, or welding operations.
- Solid working knowledge of material properties and characteristics.
- Possesses excellent computer, math, and problem-solving skills.
- Positively works and communicates with all associates (one-on-one and in group settings) throughout the organization, even when faced with challenging situations or opposing viewpoints.
- Possesses strong project management skills.
- Understands Lean, Six Sigma, 6S concepts and application of those concepts.
- Possesses strong internal drive for results, is a self-starter and able to effectively manage competing priorities.
Physical | Visual Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to see items close and at a distance.
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
Work Environment:
- Moderate noise level while in office areas.
- Loud noise level while in production areas.
