En Route Academy of the Arts
Drum Teacher

Pay Range: $25-$30 per teaching hour

Who We Are:
En Route Academy of the Arts is a contemporary music-and-art school, offering engaging and motivating private lessons or group lessons in visual arts (specifically fine studio art and digital art), as well as in multiple instruments, commercial voice and musical theater voice, songwriting, and artist development. We also offer acting lessons in theater style or film acting.

Our mission is to develop young artists, musicians, and actors into professionals, propelling them forward on the path to success in the world of arts and entertainment.

While we attempt make each lesson enjoyable, we also keep our students’ eyes on their goals and help them strive to achieve them!

All music, acting, and art at En Route is kept family-friendly (clean and appropriate for children).

We are looking for a dynamic music artist, who loves inspiring students and developing their talent, to join our team.

Who You Are:
If you describe yourself in all (or most) of the following ways, it is likely that you will be a good fit for our team:

  • You are skilled in all types and styles of drumbeats and rhythms.
  • You understand music theory at the collegiate level and can teach/explain it.
  • You are passionate about inspiring and training the next generation of performing artists.
  • You have previous experience teaching drums to students of various ages and experience levels.
  • You love when a student grasps a new concept and grows in their skills.
  • You have patience with struggling students and can motivate them to practice more by using creative methods, encouragement, and inspiration.
  • You swell with pride when your students succeed and feel fulfilled knowing you helped them get there.
  • You want to leave a legacy by helping your students launch into their specific industry or get accepted into college music programs with full confidence, knowing they are ready and fully trained.
  • You can teach both individual lessons and group classes if needed, as well as possible summer camps.
  • You understand the value and importance of being punctual and make punctuality your lifestyle.
  • You are in the process of obtaining or have already obtained at least a bachelor’s degree in music, and/or you are a professional musician who plays for churches, bands, etc.
  • You like to smile, laugh, and have fun! You bring a joyful, upbeat personality to the lessons!

What Your Life at En Route Will Look Like:
While each semester is different, here is what you can expect:

  • Teach weekly private drum lessons to students ranging from ages 7 - adult.
  • Prepare students to perform in a workshop/mini-showcase halfway through each semester and a full showcase at the end of each semester.
  • Attend the showcases in order to support your students.
  • Inspire students regularly by reminding them what they are working towards and what their goals are for their futures.

What You Have That Makes You Qualified:
Beyond being incredibly passionate and skilled, you will need to have the following to succeed in this role:

  • You have obtained or are in the process of obtaining your music degree from a reputable university’s music program. If not, you are a professional musician with extensive performance experience.
  • You have a complete understanding of music theory.
  • You possess superior skill in playing the drums and have a thorough understanding of the parts of a complete drumset along with all of the correct terminology. This includes the ability to safely/properly transport, set up, break down, and tune the drums.
  • You are able to submit some video clips and/or audio files of yourself playing the drums, demonstrating various techniques and/or styles.
  • You have the ability to communicate musical concepts and drumbeats in easy-to-understand lessons for all students between ages 7 - adult.
  • You have a proven track record of strong performance in prior roles.
  • You love people of all ages and are friendly and professional.
  • You know how to help parents feel good about their children’s progress.
  • You are able to teach year-round. (Of course, we do have scheduled break-weeks and holidays throughout the year. This year-round requirement just refers to the need for someone who can commit to being here consistently for our students, as opposed to a college student who needs to travel home every summer and then return in the fall, for example.)
  • You live locally, or at least with a reasonable commute.
  • Lastly, you have people who will vouch for you – at least 3 of them, including a former manager and client (if possible). Please do not use relatives as references.

NOTE: The ability to teach more than one musical instrument (or voice, songwriting, or artist development) would be a huge plus and would increase your likelihood of building your number of students more quickly.

What You Will Get:
Here are the benefits you will receive as part of joining our team:
