JOB SUMMARY:

The Parent Partner is responsible for supporting and mentoring families in the Child Protective Services (CPS) system who have had their children placed in out-of-home care. The Parent Partner are parents who have first-hand experience with the CPS system and who understand how the system works, an appreciation of what it takes to be successful, and personal qualities that lend themselves to collaboration on various levels.

The Parent Partner is an essential member of the Parents Supporting Parents (PSP) Program team and is part of a local and state effort to elevate parent voice and involvement to support local and state policy and systems change. As such, we are seeking passionate and committed individuals who are skilled in the areas of listening, providing guidance, and sharing hope with families in the CPS system. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, sincerity, and a willingness to help others. A Parent Partner will have successfully exited the CPS system after having had their child(ren) placed in out-of-home care related to shared lived experience with the parent.

LOCATION & HOURS: Position is based at our Janesville, Wisconsin office with flexibility to work from home. Hours are varied and may occur during typical business hours of Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm in addition to evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet the needs of clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain regular, face-to-face contact with the parent.
  • Meet with the Ongoing CPS Professional and the family together as needed or requested by the family.
  • Attend meetings with parents as needed as part of their case plan, examples include court, school, family team meetings, coordinated service teams, or meetings with other providers.
  • Support and empower the parent to make changes, advocate for and communicate their needs, and help them find solutions and a pathway towards positive change.
  • Be open in supervision and monthly group meetings about the challenges that come up in your work and your own journey towards health and wellbeing.
  • Tell your story and share your experiences (as comfortable) to advocate for local and state shifts in perspective, values, and attitudes about children, youth, and adults served within the system.
  • Provide community outreach and education on the PSP Program to build community support, awareness, and participation as needed.
  • After training is complete, staff are added to on-call duties to monitor after-hours calls.
Requirements:
  • Possess an understanding of the dynamics of separation.
  • Have first-hand experience with CPS system and successfully exited the CPS program.
  • Ability to provide culturally, ethnically, and gender-sensitive services.
