ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT
The Facilities Department is responsible for maintaining, servicing and improving the Jeffco Public Schools' 12 million square feet of schools and support buildings, valued at nearly $2.75 billion on 3,100 acres of land. The Facilities Department includes more than 700 employees in Building Maintenance and Site Maintenance, Construction Management, Custodial Services, Environmental Services, Energy Management, Facilities Service Desk, and Planning & Property. Overall Duties include boundaries, long-range facility planning, enrollment projections, energy and utility management, capital and bond-funded improvements, custodial services, facilities assessments, facilities maintenance, hazardous material management, landscape and paving, property management, snow removal, water and wastewater management.

Hourly Rate: $22.49, Annual Rate: $46,784.06 Effective as of: 08-16-2022
**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT
The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SUMMARY: Work in the field of asphalt, concrete, drainage, snow removal, temporary classroom relocations, and excavation while maintaining a safe and comfortable educational environment. Operate light to medium equipment, with exposure to heavy equipment. Provide support to Facilities Maintenance Department, capital improvement projects, and new construction management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform work in accordance to building trade standards of concrete construction, replacement, and maintenance. Form finish walls, flat work, curb and gutters, steps, caissons, and drainage structures.
Perform asphalt construction, overlays, and maintenance. Operate and maintain paving machine, rollers, and patch truck. Site preparation, hauling, and raking, and directly handle asphalt and some associated hazardous materials.
Operate and maintain light to medium equipment, with exposure to heavy equipment, including excavating for utilities; preparing site; assisting with drainage projects; and maintaining District grounds, properties, and roadways. Support and assist other trades and zones within District.
Plow snow and sand, weekly on a seasonal basis. Maintain snow removal equipment.
Design, construct, install, and maintain above and below ground drainage systems and structures.
Oversee and train lesser skilled employees and temporary employees as required.
Transport materials and equipment using single axle trucks and/or tractor-trailers. Inspect and insure that all vehicles meet requirements set forth by local, state, and federal regulations.
Weld and maintain hard surface heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and snow equipment. Fabricate hand rails, tread-plates, and truck racks, as specified by work and service orders. Assist zone HVAC journey workers with repairing boilers and piping.
Perform masonry work. Construct and maintain block, brick, tile, and tuck/point. Use specialized saws within the trade. Execute loading, transporting equipment and material, and setting up of temporary classrooms, on a seasonal basis.
Comply with city, county, state, and federal codes and regulations by preparing and submitting necessary documents timely, and recognizing utility location symbols.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required.
EXPERIENCE: One year experience in a construction related field (e.g., asphalt, concrete, excavation, building materials, etc.)
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Some knowledge of asphalt, concrete, drainage, excavation, welding, or building materials, and pipes and fittings. Ability to work flexible shifts/hours. Operating knowledge of and experience with commercial vehicles (e.g., single axle dump truck (5 yd.) and snowplow vehicles) and specialized power tools and equipment (e.g., tampers, compactors, acetylene torch, compressors, jack hammers, concrete saw, mixers, portable water pumps, portable generators, and mechanical jacks).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Driver's License Required. Class A Commercial Driver's License required within 6 months of hire date. Flagger certifications preferred. Must pass District Pre-Employment physical.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Acts as a technical resource for other technicians and seasonal employees by providing training when needed.
CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons in same work unit/building for routine internal matters, and with persons outside department/building to provide a service.
SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: High exposure to self to bruises, cuts, heat burns, repetitive motion injuries, loss of limb, loss of sight, and disfigurement due to power equipment and vehicle accidents. Medium exposure to self to chemical burns due to working with solvents, cleaners, and fumes, and to hernia due to lifting. Medium exposure to self to fractured bones and fatality due to power equipment and vehicle accidents. Low exposure to self to disease due to exposure to sewage. Also, duties of this job may impact the safety of others (medium to high exposure) if precautions are not taken when working where others are present and if work is done poorly and does not meet required specifications or codes for safety.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is occasionally required to compare, analyze, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, compile, and negotiate.
JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by Group Leader; occasionally assigned by Assistant Group Leader and/or journey level positions. This position requires application of technical knowledge to determine tools and materials required in the absence of a journey level worker. Work is guided by District policies, technical specifications, state, and federal codes and regulations pertaining to educational facilities and the operation of commercial motor vehicles. Decision making requires collaboration with Group Leader or journey level workers. Supervisor is always involved in decision making. Errors in decision making could include hauling materials to the wrong location, resulting in additional communication and wasted time.
DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Duties require cross-training in basic knowledge of asphalt, concrete, drainage, excavation, welding, building materials, and/or pipes and fittings; equipment and commercial vehicle operation; mechanical skills; and measuring.
