Responsibilities

Job Title: Process Engineer

Reports To: Plant Manager

Department: Packaging

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Job Summary

Support the Plant Manager in delivering benchmark packaging line results, specific focus is on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Quality, material utilization, scrap, and cost. Line ownership for daily +QDCI huddles (+=Safety, Q=Quality, D=Delivery, C=Cost, and I=Involvement). Own execution of key loss elimination action plans on the OEE gap analysis for all packaging lines.

Role Specific Responsibilities

Defect Handling Ownership

  • Identify the root cause of product defects.

  • Drive the elimination of the defect cause.

Centerline owner

  • Develop team capability to execute Centerline (CL) standards

  • Own, track, report CL in process measure and evaluate and coach results

  • Set direction for and support execution of action plans

  • Drive CL deviations to root cause elimination

  • Quality owner

    • Develop team capability to execute Quality standards

    • Own, track, report quality in process measure results

    • Set direction for and support execution of action plans

    • Drive quality deviations to root cause elimination

    • Process Reliability support resource

    • Monitor OEE, uptime, downtime, change overs, and scrap

    • Analyze variance reports and coach team to develop and execute improvement plan

    • Provide technical expertise and daily coaching during resolution of Line issues.

    • Perform Root Cause analysis and build capability in the team

    • Coach teams on defect recognition

    • Provide technical coaching on Kaizen execution

  • Project and Initiative support resource

    • Support project, initiative, and engineering study execution to insure appropriate standards are provided to the business

    • Interface with Product Development and Process Validation to insure vertical startup criteria are achieved

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline preferred.

Experience: Experience in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals or food and beverage industries preferred.

Professional Skills: Must be able to perform without close supervision. Must provide performance metrics to drive improvement.

Role Specific Competencies: Ensure weekly and monthly reports are completed in a timely manner to support improvement. Interact with packaging supervision to identify development needs and to develop team members.

Special Requirements:Position is based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Job conditions include inside work in pleasant surroundings, subjected to some heat and cold in extreme temperature seasons; some dust and dirt when handling cases of packaging supplies.
