Overview of Responsibilities
The Program Assistant - Holocaust Services (Program Assistant - HS) position supports Holocaust survivors. Under direction of the Director of OAS/SW program the Program Assistant - HS interfaces with the JFCS Older Adult Services/Social Work team to provide and track the services provided. Key elements of these services include Information and Referral, Financial Assistance, and Food Assistance.
In addition to completion of administrative tasks regarding Holocaust survivors, the Program Assistant -
HS will conduct in-home assessments and visits, telephone and Zoom calls to provide survivors access to the appropriate social services and will follow up with survivors as needed to ensure delivery of and satisfaction with services. Additional duties for the Program Assistant - HS include, but are not limited to, Chesed Committee activities and involvement with other special program requests and events as needed.

Program Support
Information and Referral Services

  • Responds to calls and/or voicemail messages from Holocaust survivors contacting the OAS/SW

Department.

  • Provides accurate information and resources to Holocaust survivors through phone calls and emails.

Financial Assistance

  • Ensures proper documentation is provided to Administrator for online Financial Assistance payments.
  • Reconciles credit card statements with receipts and all necessary supporting documentation for submission to Administrator.

Food Assistance

  • Responds to and prepares food assistance requests to assist Holocaust survivors experiencing food insecurity.

Technological Assistance

  • Assists Holocaust survivors with setting up usage of personal email, cell phone, and external camera attachments for personal computers.

Transportation Services

  • Assists Director of OAS/SW with responding to transportation requests from Holocaust survivors.

Administrative Duties

  • Assists Director of OAS/SW with tracking Holocaust survivor services, interfacing with vendors including resolution of billing issues.
  • Responds to and resolves administrative inquiries and questions from the general public.
  • Answers and transfers phone calls, screening when necessary.
  • Making copies, faxing, scanning, filing, and typing up documents.
  • Assists with unique events and activities, such as fundraising events or Holiday programs.

Required skills and Abilities of ideal candidate

  • Knowledge base in Social Work, or related field preferred.
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master's degree program.
  • Experience in providing services to a client/customer base and can successfully engage with older adults who are survivors of the Holocaust.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of resources like Medi-Cal and Cal Fresh preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office 365, and Outlook functions.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Understanding of documenting services in an electronic health record platform such as Apricot

Social Solutions preferred.

  • Valid California Driver's License, a reliable automobile and proof of liability insurance.
