Protein Scientist II
Bayer Research and Development Services LLC’s Chesterfield, MO, seeks a Protein Scientist II. This is a hybrid office/work-from-home position responsible for maintaining primary or share responsibility in conducting and interpreting GLP compliant research for producing or characterizing protein reagent for biotech safety assessment and generating data for dossier preparation. Duties include: (i) expressing recombinant proteins in bacterial and other cells; (ii) developing and optimizing protein purification procedures from plant tissues, bacterial or other cells using various resin-based chromatography techniques; (iii) performing protein characterization using a panel of analytical methods; (iv) managing studies under GLP requirements; (v) conducting novel purification process improvement activities that require specialized knowledge and the broad application of scientific principles; and (vi) taking initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment and in areas of professional interest.
This is a hybrid office/work-from-home position within the United States, but the employee must be able to work in the Chesterfield office four (4) days per week.
Must have a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent degree) in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or a directly related field plus three (3) years of post-doctoral experience in a related position.
Experience must include three (3) years with: (i) molecular cloning process including vector design, plasmid construction, plasmid transformation, and transformant screening; (ii) designing and executing fermentation process to produce active recombinant proteins; (iii) different techniques for protein purification, such as ion exchange chromatography, hydrophobic interaction chromatography, hydroxyapatite chromatography and affinity chromatography ; (iv) operating various instruments, such as cell disruption device, filtration and diafiltration devices, and HPLC/FPLC, to design and execute purification process; (v) protein analytical techniques to monitor the purity, identity and activity of proteins, including SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, various enzyme assays and analytic characterizations; (vi) software and digital tools to design experiments, analyze data and improve the current process; and (vii) leading projects, generating reports, presenting data internally and externally and contributing to peer-reviewed publications.
Must also have proof of publications, patents, and conference presentations.
Experience can be concurrent.
