About the Role

Under the general direction of the Program Director and Medical Director, the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the psychiatric treatment of the adult, adolescent and latency age clients within the outpatient behavioral health clinic who are not receiving external psychiatric treatment. This role covers clients across outpatient, congregate care and residential education programs.

How You Will Be Making a Difference

  • Conduct initial, follow-up and emergency psychiatric assessments of the clients assigned to them.
  • Provide psychopharmacology assessments on an on-going basis and provide updates on the diagnostic treatment and psychopharmacology to appropriate parties.
  • Consult with clinicians weekly to discuss the psychiatric aspects of cases and sit in on clinician/client meetings weekly. Consult with nurses, pediatricians, psychologists and other collaterals regarding treatment, medical issues and medication of children.
  • Participate in treatment planning meetings and meet with Medical Director/ Program Manager weekly to discuss treatment issues.
  • Provide education on psychiatric methods, diagnosis, and medical treatment to staff.
  • Participate in Administration Team meetings and meet with Program Director on a regular basis. Attend monthly MD meetings.
  • Write psychiatric evaluations and documentation of meetings, monitor labs and complete all appropriate paperwork in a timely, well written manner.
  • May oversee a program task force such as wellness initiatives and/or exercise initiatives.
  • May be required to carry a mobile device.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Possess and maintain graduate professional nurse, and nurse practitioner registration in the state of Massachusetts, which must be unrestricted, current, complete, and active.
  • Obtain Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  • Possess Bachelor’s degree in Nursing followed by a Master’s degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing from a state approved and accredited school for professional nursing training
  • Possess strong understanding of societies and their impact on mental health; ability to solve problems, monitor and examine patients
  • Be compassionate, sensitive, and possess strong reasoning and thinking skills
  • Experience working with population with various mental health diagnoses.
  • 2 –5 years’ experience treating adults, adolescents and children with complex medical, psychiatric and/or neurological issues
  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer with the ability to learn new software applications
