Position Summary
Staff Nurse II is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse II provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse II functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals. Staff Nurse II facilitates educational development of staff, leads unit-based quality improvement initiatives and acts as a professional and clinical role model and educational resource for staff. Staff Nurse II is actively engaged in Shared Leadership through membership on a governing council.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform RN duties.
- Adheres to UI Health Code of Conduct.
- Adheres to Nursing's time, overtime, and standards of performance.
- Complies with University Health Services TB, flu compliance, and fit testing requirements.
- Completes required orientation program and unit-specific competencies.
- Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on on-going assessment of the patient and input from the patient’s family.
- Completes required orientation program and unit-specific competencies.
- Facilitates orientation/re-orientation for new hires and current employees.
- Shares information and collaborates with other members of the health care team to promote effective patient care.
- Verifies and implements orders from physician, physician assistant, and/or advance practice nurse by performing interventions as prescribed by the provider and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engages and obtains information from patient and/or family to develop an appropriate patient educational plan.
- Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient’s changing needs.
- Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback.
- Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
- Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience to provide “quality” patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other governing/accrediting health care bodies.
- Plans, presents and evaluates learning/educational experiences for staff and students.
- Serves as preceptor and/or resource to other nursing staff and students.
- In collaboration with Director, Administrative Nurse III, Patient Care Services, or CNCII, lead unit-based quality initiatives and provides feedback and education to staff.
- Assumes role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.
- Serves as preceptor and/or resource to other nursing staff and students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.- One year of RN experience.
- Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
- Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
- Minimum BSN, MSN, or DNP required
- Minimum 5 years of recent/relevant Neonatal ICU clinical experience required
- Must obtain STABLE and NRP within 3 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
Leadership or educational background preferred.
Ability to be work well in group/teams exercising sound clincal judgement and using evidence-based practices preferred.
