Responsibilities

The mission of the UCLA Center for Behavioral & Addiction Medicine is to advance the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses, especially in communities with health disparities. Our research efforts include clinical trials of anti-addiction medications and HIV prevention interventions. Duties for this position include but are not limited to: conduct medical tests and administer study measures according to research protocol, conduct phone screenings and schedule research participants, collect and process specimens, perform clerical tasks and perform phlebotomy. You will also prepare, administer and document injections as well as help maintain all lab supplies and equipment and manage charting and other documentation as per study requirements. This position will be responsible for entering data and assisting with quality assurance checks.

Salary range: $27.09-$43.58 Hourly

Qualifications

Required:

State certification as a licensed phlebotomist (CPT1) and experience collecting blood samples by venipuncture/skin puncture.

Willingness and ability to maintain confidentiality of research participants.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, with subjects, staff, supervisor, and community partners.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff member.

Willingness to work evenings and weekends if assigned.

Organizational skills necessary to maintain records and coordinate other tasks as required.

Work with speed and consistency to meet the laboratory standards of performance.

Ability to work independently and report to supervisor(s) on a regular basis and in a timely manner.

Ability to question research participants about sensitive behavioral issues, including but not limited to drug use, criminal behavioral, and sexual behavior.

Skill in speaking and writing to persons of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.

Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and relevant software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite.

Specimen processing experience and knowledge of infection control procedures.

Ability to be punctual and to maintain a satisfactory attendance record.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree.

Experience in data collection and interviewing.

Certification as a Medical Assistant in the State of California.

Experience with substance using populations.

Clinical research experience.

Bilingual English/Spanish.
