SALARY

The minimum salary is $20.046 per hour.
This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime.
Pay Grade 515.

A CDL Supplemental Hourly Pay of $1.08 will be added to your salary.

This position is eligible for Hazardous Duty Supplemental Pay ($90/month)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The purpose of this position is to perform work of considerable difficulty in operating heavy equipment including front-end dumpster trucks, rear loaders, automatic side loaders, and other equipment in the collection of refuse, recycling, and yard waste on an assigned route.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


High school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training; and, two (2) years of commercial driving experience operating heavy equipment *Over The Road* (experience preferred includes rear loader, automatic side loader, GNC, mini-loader, roll-off dumpster, and knuckle boom); or, an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Possession of a commercial driver license (class B or class A) issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and a valid Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate.
  • Knowledge of routing and service reporting software preferred.
  • Must be available for emergency and on-call duty.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing during employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates various trucks equipped with an on-board computer system in the collection of residential refuse, recycling, and yard waste or collection of commercial refuse and recycling materials on an assigned route.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Supervises and trains Public Service Workers in their assigned tasks as required and ensures subordinates are aware of and are following safety procedures and policies.
  • Ensures that collections are made as required by the assigned schedules.
  • Inspects equipment checking for fuel, oil, grease, water, filters, tires and overall general condition visually and electronically per safety requirements, pre- and post-trip.
  • Maintains equipment and makes minor repairs, as required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to operate Urban County Government equipment and vehicles in a safe, prudent and responsible manner.
  • All positions require drug testing before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.
  • Pursuant to the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988 and to sections 21-52, 22-34 and 23-50 of the Code of Ordinances, all employees must remain drug and alcohol free when reporting to work, while at work and while engaged in any work related activities.
  • Based on Federal Regulations 19-10 this position may be eligible for and offered the hepatitis vaccinations. In addition, employees will be required to sign a statement stating they have accepted or declined the hepatitis vaccination

EXAMINATION

  • Applicants must first take and pass a performance (Driving) test, including training and experience evaluation from information provided on the application at filing deadline date.
  • Applicants who pass the above exam will be invited to successfully pass the set standards for the physical strength and agility test
