The Restoration & Monitoring Technician works with the Restoration Team, the Restoration Program

Manager and the Department Director to implement and monitor restoration and weed removal projects.


Essential Duties:

  • On the ground implementation including restoration planting and weed removal.
  • Safe operation of tools and engines including mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, and others.
  • Safe handling of herbicides in accordance with all regulations and Tribe policies.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of in-progress and completed planting/weed removal projects.
  • Assisting with vegetation, water quality, and other scientific monitoring as needed.
  • Assisting with organization and implementation of volunteer events, including occasional weekends.
  • Regular email correspondence with managers and team.

Additional Duties:

  • Participation in staff meetings and occasional trainings, conferences, or events.
  • The Tribe values its commitment to community service and the well-being of its members. In recognition of this, each employee may be expected to perform duties from time to time which may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Must be proficient with general office equipment and basic computer programs including Microsoft
  • Outlook, Work and Excel. Managing email correspondence at least once per day on workdays is expected.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all types of weather and rough terrain.
  • Experience safely operating mowers and power tools.
  • Ability and willingness to safely handle and apply herbicides according to regulations.
  • Ability to identify common native plants and noxious weeds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to work with a team and communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow directions, complete tasks on time, and be accountable.

Education & Experience:

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.

Education Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Natural Resources, Biology, Environmental Science or closely related field.

Experience:

  • 2 years' experience in Habitat Restoration, noxious weed management, environmental research, land management or a related field is required. Previous experience in agriculture or landscaping may be considered as a substitute on an individual basis.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting small engines, power tools preferred.
  • Experience collecting and managing scientific data preferred.
  • Coursework involving ecology or natural resource management preferred.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Current pesticide applicator's license preferred.
  • Must have and maintain a valid WA State driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation.
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment includes both an office environment in a controlled atmosphere building as well as frequent long field days with high or low temperatures, precipitation, wind, biting insects, and rough terrain.
  • Ability to work long hours in inclement weather.
  • Outside work will include manual labor and the use of hand and power tools for prolonged periods of time.

TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals.


Additional Information

  • Hourly, compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $24.14 per hour.
  • This position is a regular full-time position and employment is at will.
