About South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity

South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity (SPSHFH) was founded in 1989 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in Olympia, Washington. Our organization has successfully built 83 homes over the past 34 years. Our main focus is building energy efficient homes for low-income families, as well as creating affordable homeownership opportunities in the community, providing critical home repairs and supporting neighborhood revitalization.

Our mission is seeking to put God’s love into action, South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Our values include:

  • People First. Putting people first is an integral part of our core philosophy. By examining policies and practices both inside and outside of our organization, framing decisions based upon their impact on people, and addressing those most often marginalized, we are committed to creating a more diverse and equitable community.
  • Community. We cultivate community by establishing and nurturing a sense of connectedness and belonging across all aspects of our work. We acknowledge that we depend on each other, that our dependence and connectedness is rooted in trust and collectively working toward a common goal.
  • Future Generations. We focus on making lasting changes in our community by building wealth and nurturing environments for our elders, children, and everyone in between. Future generations will be empowered by our long-term strategy and vision of a world where everyone can have the opportunity to live in a decent and affordable home.
  • Integrity. We are committed to conduct ourselves in a manner consistent with the highest standards of integrity. We are honest, ethical, and fair in everything we do. We keep our word, deliver on our promises, acknowledge our mistakes, and do the honorable thing in the face of adversity.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We are committed to strengthening the community, by strengthening those in the community. We do this by examining mistakes from the past, the uncertainty and division in the present, and the future that could be. We aim to dispel myths and misconceptions with facts and awareness and remove the stigma of having frank and oftentimes difficult conversations. We do this not by tearing others down, but by lifting up those who are most often marginalized and misunderstood.
