The Role
Peet’s coffee is looking for a Senior Manager of Brand Design Studio to drive and manage the ways of working for the Design team. This role will report into the Senior Director of Brand Design and oversee a team of freelance and permanent Brand Design Project Managers and support Brand Designers across all seasonal initiatives and deliverables. We are looking for someone with significant experience and passion for organizing and driving a successful culture within a creatively led environment.
You are leading the charge for the Brand Design team creating and implementing an efficient and effective creative process while supporting multi-channel Directors, Marketing Managers, and creatives alike. You can distill a brief, understand the creative objectives, risks, and challenges, as well as assemble the right talent and resources for what needs to be achieved. You know how to get your team from ideation to final delivery. You are highly organized, results-driven, and an expert at both managing and tracking creative projects and organizational management. Ultimately, your shared sense of drive and agility to explore the new will help push the Peet’s Brand Design team into the next phase of growth as we elevate our brand across Brand Design strategy and deliverables across all channels including but not limited to Retail, DTC and CPG including digital and printed content, social, video and more.
Areas of Responsibilities
The Senior Manager Brand Studio is the Chief of Staff to the Senior Director of Brand Design, and is responsible for managing overall studio connectivity, process, and workflow with design and their cross-functional partners. You are the key operational partner to the Senior Design Director, and you are the direct line manager to the Studio Product Managers and support Designers. You will work in tight partnership to support the Peet’s leadership team, cross-functional partners and external agencies to ensure work is appropriately managed between and resourced.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure the team is running effectively, efficiently, and delivering according to Peet’s Creative Studios’ daily, seasonal, and long-term objectives.
- Lead the implementation and management of workflow processes.
- Manage the Brand Design cross-functional process from design to production for multi-channel marketing strategies from brief through delivery.
- Execute and manage product and marketing strategies and campaigns across a multi-channel of mediums and business channels Brand Design assets and Brand Design Brand book.
- Manage multiple channel projects across various seasons, teams, strategies and timelines across cross-functional marketing teams including DTC, CPG and Retail amongst other stakeholders as well, HR, PR, Internal Communications, etc.
- Identify, understand, and support larger brand and business strategies.
- Being the operational right hand of the Brand Design Senior Director you will support recruiting, sourcing and managing team of permanent Design Staff and Freelance support to meet the evolving needs of our business.
- Prioritizing and resourcing team projects, ensuring work streams are adequately supported, work is delivered on time, within scope, and on brief.
- Balance the tactical needs of creative delivery with the communication skills required to orchestrate, coach, and inspire a team
- Maintain top-line knowledge of status and health of all projects in the studio
- Display problem-solving expertise and works with Studio Managers to mitigate project risks and elevate to leadership when needed.
- Work in close partnership with the Creative Designers and Copywriters to define project scope, budget, resourcing and timing
- Proactively remove obstacles, elevate risk, and protect the creative intent
- Managing all Brand Design standards and style guides for cross-functional stakeholders across marketing teams as well as external partners (agencies and International teams). As keeper of the brand, you will partner closely with legal department to ensure all intellectual trademarks are up to date. Lead the set up and management of Brand Design assets management including but not limited to Font licensing, illustrations, etc.
- Manage all aspects of producing a photoshoot, from finding appropriate photographers, to booking, coordinating internal and external teams, setting up pre-pro meetings, day-of coordination including shot lists and timing, to final invoice management. Cast the right team required to complete the work and adjust as needed as priorities shift.
- Proactively manage the annual Brand Design department budget including reviewing monthly forecasts, accruals, invoices and artwork, expenditures, agency spend, creative production costs.
- Partner closely with Senior Director of Brand Design to proactively identify gaps or risks to financial planning and work together to prioritize spend.
- Lead point of contact for monthly Brand Design & Marketing Department budget status, close partnership with Finance team to resolve issues in a proactive and productive manner.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 10+ years in creative team oversight, production, and project management
- A passion for coffee, culture and creative storytelling
- Expertise in the real-world demands of delivering best-in-class creative in service to product and brand marketing with extensive production experience in all aspects of print, digital, and video.
- Experience leading the implementation and managing of workflow processes and tools, managing multiple production functions, developing effective production solutions, overseeing department administrative functions (such as budgets, training, and annual planning), and supervising relationships with third-party partners, agencies, and freelancers.
- Proven ability executing product and marketing strategies and campaigns across a broad set of mediums and business channels, e.g., multi-channel campaigns, signage, packaging, email, digital advertising, web design and usability. Experience specific to retail and consumer packaged goods ideal.
- In depth experience building alignment between Marketing and Brand Design teams, as well as foster individual relationships with stakeholders across organizational levels and varying personalities and dynamics.
- Professional experience in design, client or agency-side, managing multiple projects across various seasons and teams
- Direct experience as a manager of managers, with documented success across a variety of challenging managerial scenarios. Foster continuous development with the ability to provide effective feedback and proactive support to ensure team alignment and growth.
- A strong ability to solve problems and solutions-oriented attitude with a constructive approach to challenges despite frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- An ability to see and understand how individual work streams connect into and support larger brand and business strategies
- Expertise in the real-world demands of delivering best-in-class creative
- Portfolio of work demonstrating experience delivering multi-disciplinary creative executions of retail, live & virtual experiences
- Experience managing work streams in Hive, Google Suite, Keynote and other collaborative design tools (3D software a plus)
- Passion for current trends in social channels, virtual platforms, emerging technology, design, art, gaming, interactive and experience design
- Deep agency and technologist connections — you know just who to call for anything that comes up on a project
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate cross-functional relationships
- Ability to cast, scope, collaborate, and effectively manage external partners
- Bachelor's degree or higher or equivalent combination of education and experience and training
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite. Familiar with production and design software needs – Adobe Creative Suite, Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat.
- Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
