Varian has been transitioning to a DITA/XML architecture as part of a longer term strategy to enable greater content scaling, customization, security and utilization. We are looking for a subject matter expert who can join our cross functional team to define and drive the architectural strategy based on industry best practices and an eye toward the future of content mobilization and distribution.
Information Architect / Documentation (DITA/XML) Specialist
Varian has a unique opportunity in our Product Lifecycle Customer Services group for a Senior Information Architect and Documentation Specialist to help drive the next chapter in our technical content creation and publication processes. Varian has been transitioning to a DITA/XML architecture as part of a longer-term strategy to enable greater content scaling, customization, security, and utilization. We are looking for a subject matter expert who can join our cross functional team to define and drive the architectural strategy based on industry best practices and an eye toward the future of content mobilization and distribution.
As a successful candidate on this role, you will;
- Provide support to develop regulated and localized technical content that meets business objectives, while also enforcing quality, content structure, version control, change control, and publishing strategies that support multiple deliverables, languages, and formats
- Lead the ongoing projects to move service documents to DITA XML, supporting content developers in transition as well as collaborating on the administration of Component Content Management System (cCMS)
- Partner with Product and Technology teams, content administrators, technical writers, and content developers to assess the current content experiences and determine immediate and long-term needs to support content management, publishing, and reuse.
- Work with the cross functional team to design the DITA solution for documentation needs for service support content
- Join a cross business effort to move digital documents and content into a new information portal
- Work with cross functional team to determine and adopt tools and processes to accomplish the move to DITA XML
- Collaborate/advise on Development, designing, and implementation or the Product Content organization's taxonomy, ontology, and metadata management strategy. Including data governance and versioning
- Contribute to and advocate for content and communication standards across the organization.
- Collaborate with broad technical publications team to define, Configure, customize, and maintain Ixiasoft XML Editor and/or other editing software
- Research and recommend new approaches and replacement s for existing implementations.
- collaborate closely with cross functional partners, writers, editors, and content SMEs to assess current content organization, and improve terminology, taxonomy, navigational structure, and task flows
- Contribute to all aspects of the information architecture program and vision, developing roadmaps, creating alignment, training, and updated processes to continually improve the product experience
- Stay abreast of industry trends in content development, content management, content delivery, and the user experience of information and provide thought leadership on integrating new approaches as appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science / Information Systems or related discipline. Master’s in Information Design or Information Architecture preferred
- At least 5 years of direct responsibility for information architecture developing taxonomies/ontologies to support a variety of systems
- Extensive experience with one or more of the following technologies: cCMS, such as Ixiasoft, XML Editor, such as oXygen and associated XML tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across global and culturally diverse teams required
- Ability to work well independently and with the team required
- Highly organized and able to prioritize required
- Experience with medical devices and FDA regulated environment highly preferred
- Proven experience supporting an XML authoring environment and a DITA CMS
- Experience in DITA customization including implementing constraints and customizations
- Experience with content management systems (CMS)
- Experience with content management using HTML and XML/DITA
- In-depth understanding of markup languages and related technologies, including XML (especially DITA and DITA XML)
