Staff Accountant II, External Reporting Job at Jo-Ann Stores, LLC
SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant, External Reporting is responsible for various monthly financial close processes specific to the External Reporting department, as well as other functional areas within JOANN. These responsibilities include preparing journal entries and accruals, reconciling and analyzing key account reconciliations or other complex financial analysis. This person is involved in financial reporting which are used to make essential financial decisions along with supporting the external financial reporting that are required as part of being a public company. This position requires a solid knowledge of Accounting and understanding of financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L and Cash Flow). Additional responsibilities include ensuring audit compliance in key areas and supporting various strategic and process improvement initiatives within the Controller area.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- External Reporting / Audit Support – Assist with detailed preparation of our External Financial Statements (10Q and 10K). Includes footnote support review, research and analysis related to the final documentation and tie-out of key elements within the 10Q / 10K. Support external auditors, as necessary, during quarterly reviews and annual audit procedures.
- Financial Close – Prepares journal entries, key account reconciliations, and other month-end reporting and analysis. Prepares monthly close schedules and checklists to ensure key close deadlines are achieved on time.
- Foreign Operations Consolidation & Reporting – Perform monthly consolidation process for our Shanghai Office. Assist with the overall accounting as well as monthly forecasting and annual planning related to our Foreign Operations.
- Internal Controls and Audit Compliance – Assist in the updating, monitoring, and ensuring company compliance for the Sarbanes-Oxley narratives on an annual basis and provide supporting documentation for all testing validation completed by Internal Audit and ensure compliance for the narratives applicable to the Technical Accounting area.
- Special Projects and Analysis – Supports system testing and development (SAP, Oracle EPM), key Finance strategic projects, and other company initiatives as needed. Assist in the implementation of on-going process improvements through-out the Accounting area. Assumes additional responsibilities and supports Manager and other Technical Accounting team members as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Intermediate skill set in Excel
- Ability to self-start, organize, and prioritize in a fast-paced business environment
- Ability to build strong partnerships with various departments, levels of management, and third parties
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness of processes and system
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree - Accounting or Finance
Education Preferred: Master’s Degree - Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
Experience Minimum: 2-5 years Accounting experience
Experience Preferred: 2-5 years Public Accounting experience
