Position Summary
Day Camp Director/Music Instructor will work with The Corps Office Manager/Assistant to create a summer day camp calendar, including, not limited to, sports and music classes for our summer day camps; they will work as needed teaching various musical instruments and leading groups for special events: i.e., Local Parade, Thanksgiving and Christmas kettles, and Sunday worship services. In addition, they will schedule days to teach music and engage with children and adults.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Create a summer day camp calendar specific to music classes/sports/arts/Recreation.
- Provide music lessons for all ages (children and adults)
- Teach music theory and instruct students on how to use their instruments both in person and online
- Led and assisted various Salvation Army music groups, bands, and songsters.
- Arrange musical groups and participate in special events.
Specific Duties:
- To provide a well-rounded and comprehensive music education
- Teach ear training
- Teach the correct instrument technique
- Teach reading music proficiently
- Instructing and encouraging students to play in ensembles
- Preparing students for public recitals
- Oversee and operate all aspects of summer day camp programming
- Attend Division/Territorial events when possible
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or sometimes continuously. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax, and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Experienced musical background
- Active Salvation Army Soldiers (preferred)
- Driving Test and clean MVR check (if applicable).
A criminal background check is required with Protect the Mission policies and procedures certification.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Must be able to read music
- Must be fluent in brass, piano, percussion, etc.
- Familiar with Salvation Army Music
- Ability to interact effectively with people of all ages, ethnic and cultural diversity
- Experienced in operations of summer day camps/camps
- Capability to work within a team environment
- Patience and adaptability

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums ($34.62) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options
Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.
Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.
Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation is eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
