ATCS is seeking a highly motivated, multi-faceted Roadway Design Engineer to join our team in Charleston, SC. This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days per week required onsite in the Charleston office and up to 2 days working remotely.

This position will perform a variety of tasks at the direction of a project manager, project engineer, or other senior staff related to transportation design for public agencies (SCDOT, Municipal DOTs, etc.). The diversity of responsibilities and actual tasks require a flexible mindset and cooperative team-oriented, can-do attitude to support our project teams, the design department, and ATCS.

Job Responsibilities:

• Planning and design of transportation-related facilities
• Familiarity of the SCDOT Roadway Design Manual and AASHTO Policy on Geometric Design
• Supporting Senior Staff in a variety of tasks in the field of transportation design
• Designing horizontal and vertical roadway geometry
• Preparing various stages of construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates
• Drafting technical reports
• Assistance in developing drainage and utility designs
• Conducting field visits during design or construction
• Participating in client and public meetings

Required Skills:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
• 5-10 years' experience in the field of transportation engineering
• SC PE required; If the PE license is not in SC, must have the ability to get reciprocity within 6 months
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with others
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team and able to thrive in a busy environment with multiple assignments
• The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational skills
• Demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Demonstrate experience with MicroStation V8i, OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and OpenRoads, ConceptStation.
