PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Skilled operation of a multi-axle automated and semi-automated refuse truck and collection and disposal of refuse recyclables, bulky waste on a regularly scheduled route.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Operate refuse truck and collection of refuse on assigned route.
• Unload refuse at designated locations.
• First echelon maintenance.
• Clean and inspect vehicle daily.
• Verify compliance with established regulations and safety procedures.
• May be required to perform duties as a Maintainer III, II & I.
• May be required to act as a substitute for the Recycle Route Operator.
• Other related duties.
• Responds to inquiries from citizens and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons.
• Attends mandatory safety meetings as scheduled.
• May be called upon for snow removal.
• Reports to office personnel issues with cart placement or condition

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skill & Ability).

Knowledge of the methods and procedures usual to refuse collection; ability to operate refuse collection truck; ability to operate standard dump truck, recycling truck, refuse truck and medium to heavy equipment; ability to follow oral instructions. Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with town officials, public officials, residents, general public, other departments and agencies, and co-workers. Ability to 1) perform multiple tasks with interruptions, 2) perform duties promptly with attention to detail and accuracy, 3) learn the special laws and regulations pertaining to assigned work, 4) prioritize and organize work, and 5) organize and express thoughts and ideas through written and oral communications.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and not less than two (2) years related experience. Have and maintain Commercial Drivers’ License B (CDL).
