Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Operation’s Superintendent in supervising, directing, and evaluating department staff, promotes positive attitude/moral, handling employee concerns and problems, assigning work, counseling, and recommending disciplinary and other personnel actions to the management team.
Represents the department as safety coordinator on the city’s Safety Team; in charge of providing periodic safety training to department staff and ensures workplace safety standards are implemented and maintained and that employees are performing their duties in a safe manner. Identifies and eliminates workplace hazards and risks and ensures that all employees are utilizing personal protective equipment as required
Aids Operation’s Superintendent in ensuring all equipment is inspected and proper maintenance completed, and equipment is in top operating condition.
Visits job sites and evaluates crew performance, makes recommendations for improvement, or confirms good performance; locates service lines for builders; performs inspections; monitors progress and ensures conformance to all rules, methods, and procedures/standards.
Provides assistance to Operation’s Superintendent in monitoring SCADA/telemetry system to ensure efficient and continued system operations at all times.
Assists in maintaining inventory of departmental materials, equipment, and supplies; initiates orders for new or replacement materials and processes invoices as needed.
Receives various documentation (reports, personnel forms, invoices, etc.); reviews, approves and/or forwards as appropriate.
Prepares and/or generates routine correspondence, letters, memoranda, forms, reports and other documents via computer and/or typewriter.
Communicates with contractors, suppliers, or other individuals concerning services or supplies.
Responds to citizen/customer inquiries and complaints, to include meeting with customers and contractors in the field, providing information, researching problems, determining solutions, initiating phone calls, etc.
Responds to routine requests for information from officials, employees, members of the staff, the public or other individuals.
Answers the telephone; provides information; returns calls as necessary.
Uses knowledge of various software programs to operate a computer in an effective and efficient manner.

Minimum Training and Experience Required
High school diploma (or GED) required with 5 years of experience in the water/sewer utility environment (or related); some level of post-high school education preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
