X-Ray Technologist III Job at Nuvance Health
Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York — plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care, and two urgent care offices. Summary:
Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills covering multiple modalities ie. (CT, MRI, IR, XR). The "Multiple Modality" Technologist routinely covers in at least 1, 2 and up to 3 advanced modalities (MRI, CT, IR).
Responsibilities:
1. Radiation Safety Criteria A: Follow ALARA principles and scans patient with appropriate exposure and minimal repeatability and notes all repeat/rejected images in the appropriate manner. Radiation Safety Criteria B: Always wears personal radiation badge(s) to track exposure Radiation Safety Criteria C: Utilizes bismuth or lead shielding per established protocols. Radiation Safety Criteria D: Monitors CTDI Volume to ensure appropriate dose
2. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria A: Completes appropriate screening before entry into Zone 3 of MRI Department and is able to clear safety issues by following departmental policies and obtaining pertinent/applicable documentation. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria B: Uses hearing protection, cushions for safety/comfort, emergency call button and communicates with the patient throughout the exam. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria C: Monitors SAR Levels and keeps them within guidelines as well as instructing patients on the importance of not interlacing fingers or crossing legs. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria D: Ensures that patients who require GFR clearance, orbit X-rays and/or pregnancy waivers are identified and all issues are resolved in a timely manner.
3. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria A: Properly identifies patients by name/DOB as well as introducing himself/herself to the patient by first name. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria B: Reviews prescription for accuracy and completeness, explains procedure, answers questions/concerns and completes/initials screening/history form. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria C: Obtains required bloodwork for GFR clearance and diabetic medication clearance for applicable patients. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria D: Advises patient on proper exam preparation including removal of deodorant/lotion, dietary restrictions, removal of jewelry and appropriate attire.
4. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria A: Performs venipuncture for contrast administration utilizing aseptic technique when starting heplocks or butterfly injections. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria B: Operates power injectors following manufacturer guidelines and selects the appropriate injection protocol for the specific exam. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria C: Dispenses oral contrast to patients appropriately and gives clear instructions. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria D: Monitors injection of contrast, recognizes infiltrations promptly and communicates with the patient throughout the exam.
5. Image Acquisition Criteria A: Reviews prescription and protocol for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Image Acquisition Criteria B: Proficient in positioning all routine and technically challenging views to obtain optimal quality. Image Acquisition Criteria C: Correct selection and proficiency in scanning established protocols. Image Acquisition Criteria D: Covers appropriate anatomy and utilizes proper scan parameters.
6. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria A: Respects scheduled appointment times and communicates delays to reception staff and/or patients directly. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria B: Reviews charge entry and notifies appropriate administrative staff with necessary changes. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria C: Completes charge sheet accurately ensuring the CPT4 code matches the exam performed. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria D: Starts and completes examination in ADS workflow and records required information on log sheets. In Mammo checks-in breast ultrasound and includes complete and accurate notes to the Sonographer.
7. Exam Completion Criteria A: Evaluates images for technical quality, repeats scans as necessary and provides concise relevant history to the Radiologist for interpretation. Exam Completion Criteria B: Performs required post processing and/or transfers appropriate images to dedicated workstations. Exam Completion Criteria C: Ensures prior exams and reports are available for comparison. Exam Completion Criteria D: Scans accompanying paperwork, annotates contrast administered/amount then verifies images in PACS.
8. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria A: Selects correct patient and updates necessary clinical history. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria B: Enters pertinent notes relating to present exam and indicates the reason for exam/location of concern. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria C: Resolves prior examinations accurately. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria D: Indicates when shielding was utilized.
9. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria A: Responds immediately in the event of a quench to evacuate patients and staff from harm. Able to undock the MRI table quickly. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria B: Able to recognize specific psychological (ie. claustrophobia, anxiety) and/or physical needs of patients and determine when further assistance is needed. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria C: Able to locate and use all necessary emergency equipment (code cart, oxygen, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, etc). Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria D: Promptly responds to situations which require a timely response and documents relevant information on incident forms.
10. Infection Control Criteria A: Follows universal precautions including the use of gloves, gowns and masks as appropriate. Infection Control Criteria B: Cleans and disinfects between each patient and can perform/document high level disinfection appropriately. Infection Control Criteria C: Disposes of needles and syringes in designated sharps containers, comprehends safe fill levels and seals containers appropriately for pick-up. Infection Control Criteria D: Keeps work area and waiting room clean and tidy.
11. Quality Control Criteria A: Maintains quality control standards and updates all necessary logs. Quality Control Criteria B: Able to perform quality control tests per ACR requirements and reboot/shutdown systems per manufacturer guidelines. Quality Control Criteria C: Actively participates in Time Out procedures required for certain exams. Quality Control Criteria D: Initiates equipment service requests, updates service logbook and notifies supervisor as necessary.
12. Miscellaneous Criteria A: Functions as a Technologist in other modalities (X-Ray, Stereotactic Biopsy, Bone Density) upon supervisor request and skill level. Miscellaneous Criteria B: Stocks work area with laundry and medical supplies on a daily basis. Miscellaneous Criteria C: Active participation in maintaining break room cleanliness. Miscellaneous Criteria D: Willingly performs other tasks to assist ancillary personnel pertaining to patient care.

Required: Graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology. Minimum of 3 years of CT or MRI experience preferred.
Minimum Experience: three years
Desired: ARRT Certification of Radiology required.
RRT advanced certification is required or pending in the advanced imaging modality that the Tech is responsible for covering, ie. MRI, CT. CT State Radiology License is required.
CPR preferred.
Maintains continuing education requirements (24 CE credits per biennium).
Possesses excellent knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and physiology
