Advancement Solutions delivers services and resources to enable the work of almost 1100 University-wide AA&D staff and engage hundreds of thousands of alumni, donors, and volunteers. The team leads efforts to innovate and enhance the organization’s work through business process design, data management, business operations services, project execution, business intelligence, change management, and technology systems.
The Business Analyst role is a
one-year time-limited position. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable of the portfolio of applications, including but not limited to e-commerce systems for accepting donations to the university, the Alumni.Harvard community, data integrations, and vendor platforms. This role delivers customer-focused service with an emphasis on continuous improvement in the service areas of user and production system support, business requirements gathering, solution design, and project implementation in support of AA&D strategic business needs.

- Update configurations to meet requirements for online giving forms and other business needs
- Gather and document functional requirements, and translate requirements into technical solutions that support business priorities and provide a high-quality user experience
- Collaborate with developers on technical design and functionality
- In collaboration with the team, identify the impact of changes to downstream applications
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a clear understanding of the business operations and how technology supports these processes to provide the most effective solutions possible
- Participate in all aspects of production support, upgrades, and new project implementation. Review/update specifications, write and execute test plans, collaborate with the Practice team, and advise the training team on drafting policies and procedures. Perform work within a set schedule.
- Comply with standards, best practices, and policies defined for the team
- Develop an in-depth understanding of underlying data, table structures, business needs, and team-supported applications. Applications include but are not limited to e-commerce systems for accepting donations to the university, the Alumni.Harvard community, data integrations, and vendor platforms.
- Provide end-user support across all supported products
- Provide support during project go-lives and critical business cycles, which may include occasional evening or weekend work
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Must be conscious of data security and risk management.
- Must have an even disposition and be able to deal effectively and politely with all people from all backgrounds and experiences and in all types of situations.
- Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office tools and collaboration tools such as Teams and Zoom is required
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate problems accurately and display sound judgment.
- Ability to work within a team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must be collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented.
- Familiarity with relational databases, web applications, and SQL is a plus
- Being Familiar with best practices related to the software development life cycle is a plus
Certificates and Licenses
- Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred
Working Conditions
Workplace role requirements outside of campus-based engagements required by AA&D/team or unit, such as reunion activities, retreats, etc. You will be expected to work certain events/campus activities, such as reunions each spring, and participate in department retreats that are taking place on campus in Cambridge, MA. We will do our best to give you up to 2-weeks’ notice with these situations.
- For those interested in remote work, this position can be performed as fully remote. AA&D does require visits to Cambridge for on or around campus-based engagements required by AA&D leadership, your team or unit, such as reunion activities, retreats, etc. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.
