Job Summary

Campus Services (CS) is a multi-department organization within Harvard University’s Central Administration that provides a wide range of non-academic services to the University community. The CS workforce is made up of more than 1700 professional, technical, and front-line staff.

The position reports to the Campus Services Vice President, with a dotted-line relationship to the Sr. Director of Human Resources. This position will work frequently with the Campus Services EDIB Committee and its Co-Chairs, as well as Department Managing Directors/Directors to strengthen and drive an EDIB strategy that promotes diversity, fosters inclusion, and strengthens a culture of valuing difference with the goal of providing high-quality service to our equally diverse University community. This position will support EDIB training and development efforts aimed at creating the best experience for Campus Services staff members. They will proactively partner across all levels of the organization to develop, implement, and track progress against ongoing strategic and tactical initiatives that enhance Campus Services’ work environment, with specific focus on capacity building, as well as organizational culture and change management.

This role provides insights and guidance to Department Managing Directors/Directors, HR business partners, a mature EDIB CS Committee and the VP regarding topics and issues that enable stakeholders to understand unique business challenges and varying cultures to effectively enable and align EDIB strategy. This role will reinforce the importance of building trust by enabling a culture of empowerment and by driving a culture of belonging and inclusion.

This is a new position within Campus Services that builds off significant Committee-based work. However, this will be the first dedicated EDIB CS leader charged with leading a comprehensive approach to advance our goals to ensure Campus Services is a place where everyone can thrive. The role will intersect with the University’s Office for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (OEDIB) to ensure strategic alignment. They will learn and network with school and department EDIB officers across the University, enabling continuous learning and sharing of best practices.

Position Description

  • Develops and implements a strategic CS-wide EDIB roadmap and engagement plan, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement across all CS Departments and Campus Services as a whole;
  • Advises VP of Campus Services and Managing Directors regarding strategic EDIB priorities and goal-setting;
  • Guides, coordinates, aligns and monitors the CS EDIB Committee and Department-specific EDIB action plans and provides support developing programmatic structure for department deployment, implementation support, sharing of best practices and coaching to leaders working to create a diverse, inclusive workplace;
  • Develops and maintains a strategic plan for training and development in the EDIB space, including oversight and deployment of a training and convening budget, and coordinates with local business unit teams on ongoing initiatives;
  • Develops employee listening mechanisms to evaluate progress around inclusive culture and identify areas of opportunity, including engagement surveys;
  • Leverages CS-wide metrics on hiring, promoting, and turnover to show impact to the organization and business units. Facilitate exit interviews and other feedback loops to understand root causes of challenges as requested;
  • Partners with to ensure local on-boarding programs are thorough and effective in ensuring new employee connection and ongoing development;
  • Leads discussions with senior team and communications to inform decisions regarding CS EDIB work at the local level;
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to HR, Talent Acquisition, Hiring Managers, and leaders on ways to enact actions related to diverse hiring practices, culture and workforce;
  • Facilitates and contributes to strategic discussions and decisions to ensure consideration of impact of EDIB in organizational development, policies, procedures, decisions, and initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certificate preferred in organizational development, human resources management, equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, psychology, sociology or equivalent corporate, nonprofit or institutional experience.
  • 7-10 years’ experience in human resources, organizational development, strategic planning, change management or diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work, or related fields.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to motivate, influence a variety of stakeholders, and peer groups.
  • Proven track record of experience in change leadership, EDIB, culture development, organizational development, EDIB program development, and/or project management.
  • Demonstrated skills in leveraging storytelling, and diplomacy in crucial conversations.
  • Must have strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Multilingual strongly preferred with a preference for Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole

NOTE: This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week on campus.
