Essential Functions:

  • Support the SAR team’s environmental requirements and deliverables
  • Lead and coordinate the alignment with industry best practices pertaining to environment and sustainability throughout the region.
  • Review and provide oversight for Environmental Management Plans (SWPP, SPCC, etc.), site-specific mitigation plans, engineering designs for compliance with planning and sustainability requirements, technical submissions related to environmental aspects including claims, and monthly inspections/ reports.
  • When needed/ required, conduct compliance site walks, detailed reviews, inspections, and internal audits to ensure adherence with all applicable environmental permits, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide advice to develop environmental design solutions and ensure that environmental sustainability issues continue to be embedded as an integral part of processes and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and support the management for environmental consultants contracted to perform environmental assessments
  • Support the SAR ES&H Team on internal and external reporting of environmental requirements.
    • Assist/ File compliance or annual reports, as directed, required by regulatory agencies.
    • Assist with annual CRH sustainability report in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities and influence implementation of methodologies to improve the environmental performance of SAR Operating Companies.
  • Track environmental and sustainability metrics to identify trends that may trigger both preventative or promotional actioning.
  • Drive culture toward environmental stewardship and sustainable practices
  • Assist in the management of current environmental and sustainability practices
  • Assist in the implementation of new environmental and sustainability procedures
  • Assist in leading internal training sessions to improve knowledge of industry standards
  • Collaborate and provide subject matter expert knowledge for environmental management, water stewardship and sustainability
  • Influence improvement initiatives to ensure best-in-class performance
  • Respond/ Assist Operating Company (OpCo) during environmental events
  • Assist/ Participate in governing body inspections (TDEC, OSHA, MSHA)
  • Assist management with environmental projects, as needed.
  • Planning and coordination as needed to support the strategic goals of the region (Ex. Phase 1 assessment and evaluation for acquisitions.)
  • Travel within the SAR (Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia) is required

Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in an environmental-related field is preferred.
  • 10 or more years of experience in environmental field and/or construction field is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Background in environmental science, biology, engineering (environmental, water resources), hydrogeology, hydrology, permitting or other appropriate areas
  • Experience in an industrial setting is preferred, but not required
  • General knowledge of industry standards, guidelines, and good practice tools
  • Ability to identify gaps, action plans and schedules to obtain alignment
  • Experience with the following is required: Environmental permits (Storm Water, Air, Waste Water), SWPPP, SPCC, Air Emissions, RCRA, DOT Hazardous Waste Classification
  • Certification in the following is preferred, but not required: HAZWOPER 40 Hour
  • Familiarization with local permitting requirements for TN, NC, SC and GA.
