Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Learning Success, the Learning Skills Specialist (LSS) will provide academic coaching services through a wide range of programming and interventions, including individual consultations, small-group workshops, and online training. The LSS will collaborate with units and offices that provide tutoring and student support, assisting with training and assessment as needed. The LSS will also coordinate with academic advising units and campus partners to collaboratively provide holistic support for students who are struggling academically.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s degree with expertise related to the design and implementation of evidence-based learning strategies applicable to higher education and professional settings.

Experience:
  • Three years of formal experience providing academic coaching and support for college students and/or adult learners.
  • Experience designing and providing training related to academic learning and performance skills in both in-person and online formats.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Demonstrated contribution to advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives through academic programming and resources.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills for a wide range of audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport and trust with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; superior ability to lead, develop and administer academic programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of the current research related to metacognitive learning strategies and its applications.

  • Full-time higher education experience serving as an academic skills specialist.
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities related to academic learning and performance.
  • Experience supporting and meeting the needs of diverse students.

The salary range for this position is $56,00 – $70,000.

  • Sedentary work.
