The Opportunity
Representing the voice of the consumer, guide data/research-based business decisions that enable Abbott Nutrition to maximize revenue, brand share and profitability, and strengthen retail partnerships.
What You’ll Work On
As the key insights partner on a pediatric brand, understand business opportunities and challenges, collaborate with cross-functional insight/analytics and business teams, define research and analysis needs, lead primary research initiatives, and share insights and recommendations to help drive business actions.
Strategic Consultancy:
- Develop intimate understanding of the consumers(s), shoppers, business and relevant brands, including financials, positioning, marketing programs, and distribution.
- Anticipate and identify market opportunities and challenges.
- Consistently represent the voice of the consumer/shopper among internal partners to ensure that the consumer/shopper is always top-of-mind.
- Consult the business/brand and cross-functional teams on strategic and tactical topics.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
Learning Plan and Insights Management:
- Collaborate with insights colleagues and business teams to identify knowledge gaps, and develop the Learning Plan.
- Mine existing information from past research, as well as secondary sources. Collaborate with analytics partners as needed, to deliver synthesized, integrated insights.
- Design specific research and analyses initiatives and manage them end-to-end.
- Identify research vendors, methodologies and data sources that are appropriate to address the business questions(s), and proactively discuss the design of research with business partners and vendors to enhance strategic value.
- Negotiate and partner with research suppliers to deliver learning efficiently and effectively. Challenge research suppliers as appropriate and evolve the overall research program.
- Practice continuous improvement of the research process.
Engagement with Internal Partners:
- Engage in good insights ‘process’ that improves the relationship with business partners and helps them understand it. Develop strong team-based relationships with internal partners.
- Dedicate an appropriate amount of time to truly understand the business questions, and challenge where appropriate, to properly scope out research and analyses.
- Practice a sense of urgency. Establish timely and realistic deadlines with business partners and work to meet those deadlines.
- Ensure complete objectivity and superior standards of reporting to all levels of management.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement by soliciting feedback from all stakeholders.
- This position interacts primarily with Brand Marketing and Innovation Managers and Directors, as well as with Shopper Insights, Sales, Finance and R&D.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Psychology or related field required; a Master’s in Marketing Research or Psychology, or an MBA, is preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience of managing end-to-end primary market research studies.
- Client-side market research experience in the CPG, Healthcare or Retail industry preferred. Experience with market research suppliers must include managing end-to-end initiatives for one or more of the above industries.
- Strong understanding of custom research methods, both quantitative and qualitative.
- Experience with syndicated sales or panel data (e.g., Nielsen, IRI) is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations
- Excellent written and communication skills, strong presentation skills.
- Strong analytical skills, and a mastery of Excel and PowerPoint. SPSS/other statistical software is a plus.
- Proven ability to integrate data from various sources to provide synthesized insights.
- Strong influencing skills, and ability to work effectively with all levels of business team management.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Ability to coach others and build organizational talent for insights.
