As a
Manual Machinist, you will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. You will fabricate parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders. Responsibilities:
- Fabricate, erect, install, and maintain shop machinery; fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, machines and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
- Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on shop equipment, including troubleshoot and repair shop machinery.
- Complete daily maintenance and repair logs.
- Communicate with operators from other shifts.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 3 years’ direct experience in machining and fabrication using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and veneer calipers.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals.
