The Mediation Restorative Practices and Prison ReEntry Coordinator is responsible for coordinating our Mediation Restorative Practices programing including In School Mediation and Prison Reentry.
The Role: The Mediation Restorative Practices and Prison ReEntry Coordinator will have a variety of duties connected to the restorative justice processes referred by the Montgomery County Public Schools and Department of Juvenile Services. Primary job responsibilities include supervision of AmeriCorps, recruiting and training new and ongoing volunteers, keeping a database of volunteer information and skills, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills, keeping volunteers informed, and conveying the organization's purpose to the public. A key component of the job will be developing and facilitating initial and ongoing training. Other job duties will include program development, case tracking, evaluating volunteer and participant needs and providing training, outreach, data collection, community engagement and engaging referral partners.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS, FUNCTIONS/MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide training, modeling, consultation, coaching and technical support to staff in facilitation of restorative practices, including restorative dialogue, restorative conferences, restorative conversations, community building circles, peer circles, entry/re-entry circles, peacemaking circles, etc. (RJ continuing training, facilitator skills development, Advanced Intercultural Communication, Basic Mediation Training, Trauma Informed Care, Victim Advocacy Core Training).
- Respond to incoming MCPS referrals to assess if the case is appropriate for a restorative process, and assign volunteer mediators accordingly.
- Follow up on all restorative meetings to ensure agreements are upheld.
- Ability to facilitate difficult conversations with both youth and adults.
- Recruit a diverse pool of volunteer facilitators and provide ongoing supervision and support.
- Supervise program Americorps and volunteers.
- Maintain a healthy working relationship with partner schools and community organizations to strengthen community relationships and supports.
- Track referrals and monitor program quality, including participant and volunteer engagement.
- Initiate and collaborate with partners for referrals when outside services are needed.
- Perform case file reviews and analyze the feedback-surveys from program participants and volunteer facilitators.
- Use Motivational Interviewing, Collaborative Problem Solving, Wraparound, and other effective practices
- Apply an equity lens to program procedures and trainings.
- Coordinate and conduct outreach to find additional support for services and referrals as needed for the responsible party to engage and seek support and will identify these resources and make the referrals, including referrals to meet basic needs and to get other support like counseling or peer mentoring.
- Monitor volunteer ability to work with the clients to develop a written agreement or in utilizing other restorative practices.
- Work with volunteers to ensure all case documentation is completed, as well as tracking volunteer hours.
- Perform follow-through and completion of case agreements.
- Manage volunteer case management and training.
- Understanding of conflict resolution practices and use with other staff and community partners connected to the program.
- Educate volunteer facilitators about the legal system, victim rights, and information about specific crime types.
- Source and recruit volunteers using various recruiting techniques and collect information on qualifications (lived experience and education) and skills.
- Manage schedules for volunteer facilitators and track program engagement.
- Communicate frequently with volunteers.
- Ensure volunteers are satisfied by creating a healthy and safe work environment.
- Track and evaluate volunteer work.
- Give constructive feedback and coaching to volunteer facilitators.
- Keep and manage effective record of volunteer work and schedules.
- Manage volunteer facilitator teams and provide guidance if conflicts arise.
- Flexible work hours (includes some evenings and weekends).
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Engage in community events, meetings, etc.
- Maintain effective working relationships with professional service staff.
- Learn and work within specific agency operations, policies and procedures affecting assigned work.
- Ability to work through conflict with co-workers and volunteers.
- Ability to work under pressure and effectively diffuse crisis situations.
- Empathize with and motivate clients, recognize client needs and abilities.
- Collaborate with case managers, courts, attorneys, public school teachers and other professional individuals.
- Report any potentially dangerous situations or safety plan violations to MCPS or law enforcement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
