Department Overview
Corporate Accounting provides accurate and timely delivery of the company’s consolidated financial statements and supports the filing of Forms 10Q and 10K. The Energy Accounting team, within Corporate Accounting, is responsible for regulatory accounting and cost recovery. The team helps business partners understand accounting implications, research complex accounting issues, implement accounting standards, and educate others on accounting topics, including preparing and supporting the application of company accounting policies and implementation of transactions from an accounting perspective.
Position Summary
The Principal Accounting Analyst will work in Energy Accounting supporting our vision to enable the group to perform in line with a world-class accounting department. In this position, you will perform accounting functions that will provide an excellent overview of corporate accounting in both PG&E and the utility industry. You will develop and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and partner with our Business Finance and Functional Business co-workers to ensure we are accurately capturing the activities that occur within PG&E.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
A reasonable salary range is:
California Minimum: $125,000
California Maximum: $215,000
Job Responsibilities
Provide regulatory research and guidance on complex regulatory and accounting issues.
Project manage complex implementations of regulatory decisions through collaboration with other PG&E organizations.
Serve as witness assistant for annual procurement regulatory filings.
Identifies process improvements to reduce risk during account review, improve effectiveness of communications with business partners, and gain efficiencies during monthly close review procedures.
Identifies, researches, and coordinates the resolution of accounting issues.
Manages and contributes to the department and company projects/initiatives to improve processes and understands / translates financial impacts.
Assists analysts and senior analysts in identifying areas for process improvement and helps to oversee/guide implementation.
Actively communicates issues and key activities to management.
Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.
Reviews and interprets policies, reporting requirements, rules, and regulations.
Provides leadership and guidance to assigned team on appropriate techniques and methodologies for analyzing regulatory decisions.
Acts as a team lead and provide direction to less experienced employees.
Manages cross-functional projects or initiatives.
Provides guidance in the process of researching and resolving issues. Leads the resolution of more complex accounting / disclosure issues.
Reviews and approves journal entries and account reconciliations.
Work with big data models and lead system upgrades or implementations that impact accounting functions.
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience
8 years of recent relevant accounting
Desired:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent
10 years of relevant work experience
Excellent written and verbal communication
Proficient in computer skills (Excel/Word/PowerPoint)
Proficient in financial analysis and internal controls
Proficient in Utility ratemaking
Utility accounting (ASC 980) experience
Public Accounting Experience
IT system implementation and maintenance experience
