The Research Associate I, Product Development reporting to the Associate Director, Product Development will conduct experimental bench work in support of development of rAAV Gene Therapy clinical candidate vectors.
The Product Development team has responsibility for analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein expression from tissues and cell lines, and analysis of samples across many disease indications, including CNS, neuromuscular, liver systemic and liver metabolic rare diseases. The therapeutic strategies may include gene replacement, gene knock down, gene modulation, and combinations of those approaches.
The ideal candidate will have direct experience with quantitative molecular biology techniques, including isolation of DNA, RNA, and protein from cells and tissues, quantitative PCR, RT-PCR, ddPCR, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western blot and capillary Western blot. NGS library preparation experience is a plus. This position will be located at AskBio’s headquarters in RTP (Durham), NC.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct experimental benchwork to test AAV transgenes in cells and tissues based on the understanding of molecular biology and AAV biology.
- Help developing new assays and help the team in designing novel analytical techniques.
- Process, track, and analyze samples for protein, RNA, and DNA from cells and tissues to generate high quality reproducible data, store the data and samples in an organized manner.
- Contribute to teamwork, collaborate with other members of the team, and help with training new team members.
- Contribute to/author study reports, study protocols, and technical discussions and investigations within project teams.
- Ensure lab areas are well organized and equipment and supplies are available and safety protocols are followed.
Required Education & Experience
- BS degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other relevant degree with 2-5 years research experience, or MS with 1-2 years’ experience.
- Experience in expression vector design and construction, mammalian cell culture and expression of recombinant proteins and functional characterization of the recombinant proteins.
- Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams, as well as being an individual contributor.
- Ability to multitask among multiple projects and teams and work independently in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, capable of working independently and in a collaborative environment.
- Good judgment and innovation to achieve a solution within standard procedures.
- Experience with global teams.
- Experience with NGS library preparation is a plus.
