About the Opportunity.

Our company has tripled in size in the last five years. To support the growth in our transformation, we’ve created a Global Category Buyer, Chemicals position. This role reports to the Global Category Manager, Direct Materials and is part of the Global Procurement team. The Directs Team sources materials for all five divisions supporting our innovative and sustainable growth platform to become the preferred sustainable specialty materials company.

This role is responsible for ensuring supply to the business at best possible total cost of ownership and service level. The qualified incumbent will provide insights to the Category Manager to support the development and implementation of the Category Strategy and execute world-class RFx and supplier relationship management according to best practices in Category Management.

This position can be based out one of our locations in the US (Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky and South Carolina)

Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to delivering the value and securing TCO reductions of the category in scope
  • Support and provide inputs to build fact-based category analysis using adequate procurement tools and templates
  • Support global category strategy elaboration, implementation, and follow-up
  • Responsible, upon delegation by Category Manager, for the execution of RFx process
  • Negotiate final commercial package and contract
  • Support the supplier relationship management process
  • Track internal performance within category
  • Support relationship with category stakeholders
  • Execute risk management approach for the category in scope
  • Actively contribute to the development of the Category organization
  • Travel to sites within the Ahlstrom Group, supplier meetings, fairs and trade shows

Minimum Occupational Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in Category Management or in other relevant strategic procurement functions
  • Chemicals experience, required
  • Minimum business, commercial and financial acumen
  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and ‘Ownership Mindset’
  • Willingness and ability to challenge own and others’ beliefs and thinking in a constructive manner
  • Willingness to travel to plants 20% per annum after onboarding

  • Analytical Thinking. Ability to identify and define problems, extract key information from data and develop workable solutions for the problems identified in order to test and verify the cause of the problem and develop solutions to resolve the problems identified.

Creates solutions to problems using novel methods and processes. Looks for underlying causes or thinks through the consequences of different courses of action.
