Temporary Archivist Job at State of South Carolina

Under the direction of the Director of Collections and Curatorial Affairs, the incumbent will:
  • Perform archival documentation, identification, and research.
  • Provide reference service to museum visitors using archival collections and related material.
  • Preserve historic military records and photographs.
  • Process historic documents following established conservation techniques, treatments, and procedures.
  • Perform professional editing duties in the preparation and publication of historic documents.
  • Provide technical cataloging supervision and consultation in military history.
  • Work with the exhibition committee on planning new exhibitions and work on the interpretive plan for new and existing exhibits and tour routes.
  • Serve as the records manager for the museum and be responsible for the proper disposal/retention of official papers.
  • Participate in disaster recovery activities.

A bachelor's degree and related professional experience or directly related course work in Archival Science, Library Science, Museum Studies, or a related field.
The incumbent must:
  • Be competent in the usage of computer photographic equipment.
  • Be licensed to operate vehicles.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be able to handle a variety of museum objects and lift up to 15 pounds.
